TRACS – The tyre recovery and collection scheme has been successfully introduced by the ITIA in Ireland . This scheme means that all tyres must now be collected by licensed collectors. ‘TRACS is working really well and will help to regulate our industry. We now need to make sure that all the tyres collected are then taken out of the waste stream in their entirety.' Leo Kerley
‘ETRA - Tyre recycling saves thousands of barrels of petroleum per year. Recycling 3 passenger car tyres could save 1 barrel of oil. ! Ireland produces 40, 000 ton of waste tyres per year. If all these tyres were recycled we could save over 378,800,000 barrels of oil per year
All tyres can be taken in for recycling, from lawnmowers to heavy plant tyres. The onus is on the holder to ensure that their waste tyres are disposed of through an appropriate, complete and environmentally friendly process. New EU regulations will enforce the need for recycling as the only long term solution to waste tyre management. Tyres are no longer accepted in land fill site.
The process is complete with the used tyres being removed from the waste stream and turned into market leading products for the sports and leisure industry. The steel removed in the process is also recycled.
